Work Permit Procedures
Property owners who wish to demolish, alter, build an addition or
erect a new structure are responsible for obtaining a building permit
from DOB to ensure that the resulting house, loft, apartment, office,
garage, house of worship or any other residential, commercial or
industrial structure complies with Building Code and zoning requirements.

Home Improvement Business Examination Guide
The New York City Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) licenses
all individuals and businesses engaging in Home Improvement. Under
the Rules of the City of New York (Title 6, Section 2-226), an
applicant for a home improvement contractor's license or a salesperson's
license must pass a written examination given by the DCA. This
publication is intended to familiarize all applicants for a home
improvement contractor's or salesperson's license with the laws
regulating these license areas and to enable applicants to prepare
